Playful and provocative, this exhibition seeks to explore how the qualities of cloth conceal, reveal and seduce through the prisms of art, design, film, and dance. The drape, fold, touch and feel of fabric have been used to explore identity as a sensual, gendered or political experience by artists including Raisa Kabir, Vivienne Westwood, Alison Watt and Cathy de Monchaux. The exhibition will feature a number of new works, including Fanfair, an immersive installation by contemporary textile artist Reiko Sudo. Curated with Professor Alice Kettle (Manchester Metropolitan University) and Professor Lesley Millar (University for the Creative Arts) the exhibition is developed from their three year research project ‘The Erotic Cloth’ and book The Erotic Cloth (Bloomsbury Academic, 2018)
