This piece depicts three girls playing cat’s cradle with a goldenthread. They stand behind the dog Loukanikos (an actual dog whobecame a symbol of the Greek anti-austerity protests in 2010), andwho barks at a group of riot police who are constrained by anothergolden thread. Amanda Ravetz, Research Professor ManchesterSchool of Art, writes, ‘Like the dog of Hades, Loukanikos mediatespolitics and magic, reproduction and territorialisation, dream anddisillusionment’. This work suggests a continual tension betweencynicism and change and between power and powerlessness.
