Making Ground

16 May 2016 - 13 June 2017
Overview

Spanning 2016-2017, the Making Ground project was a 12 month Arts Council funded collaboration between basket maker Annemarie O’Sullivan and ceramicist Elaine Bolt. The project involved creative exploration of place, of materials and ideas; all inspired by working and exploring the land of a former clay brick site.

Making Ground included a series of workshops and exhibitions and the makers produced both ephemeral and enduring pieces using clay, willow and found objects from the site. The project was focussed on a sense of place, changing seasons, and how being closer to the source of their materials, and working together affected the artists’ practice. Alice Kettle and artist Helen Carnac were invited to join them for a making day, using willow and clay from the land, to explore how a collaborative journey could emerge.
