Rijswick Textile Biennale

2017

The fifth Rijswijk Textile Biennial took place from 16 May to 24 September 2017 and featured fibre art by twenty-four international artists including Alice Kettle. Traditional textile techniques such as weaving, knitting, and embroidery were combined with photography and digital processes to explore social and political themes alongside personal narratives.

Part of an internationally renowned series at Museum Rijswijk, the biennial presented artists at the forefront of contemporary fibre practice, using innovative approaches to textile to convey powerful messages through striking imagery.

An illustrated catalogue (Dutch/English) of the work of the participating artists accompanied the Rijswijk Textile Biennial. The author of the catalogue is art historian Frank van der Ploeg.
