A Stitch in Time : GROUP EXHIBITION
PAUL SMITH SPACE
Alice Kettle was included in A Stitch in Time, a group exhibition at Paul Smith that brought together works by a new generation of artists working in fibre art.
Inspired by Anni Albers' reflection, "I learned to listen to threads and to speak their language," the exhibition explored the creative and cultural significance of fibre as both material and metaphor. Bringing together artists who challenged conventions of material, process and form, A Stitch in Time celebrated experimentation, reinvention and the expressive potential of textiles.
The exhibition examined how artists worked with techniques such as weaving, stitching, folding and threading to create new modes of representation. Drawing on histories of textile-making while pushing the boundaries of the medium, the participating artists transformed embroidery, sewing and reclaimed fabrics into powerful reflections on identity, memory, the natural world and contemporary social and political issues.
Presented at Paul Smith, A Stitch in Time reflected the brand's longstanding interest in imaginative uses of materials and innovative making processes. The exhibition showcased artists who shared this spirit of invention, demonstrating how fibre art continues to restore meaning to our relationship with materials while capturing deeply personal and often politically resonant stories.
